While in Plettenberg Bay you can spot Dolphins and Southern Right Whales, alternatively you can explore the Otter or Robberg trails in the area. When visiting the nearby pristine beaches remember to collect rare Pansy shells. You can also enjoy a guided cruise up the Keurbooms River or take part in any of the variety of watersports available.
The warm Indian Ocean and the abundance of inland water surfaces offer endless opportunities for bathing, boating, water-skiing, surfing, windsurfing, angling, diving and birdwatching. Bowls, tennis, horse riding and hiking are other popular forms of recreation along the Garden Route.
The Garden Route attractions are vast as they are interesting. It includes 20 golf courses, the Tsitsikamma National Park – with an unparalleled variety of insects, fish, reptiles, amphibian, bird and mammal life, coupled with a diversity of plant species.
Visit the Garden Routes Wilderness National Park; it has 5 rivers, 5 lakes, 2 estuaries and 28km (17.4 miles) of coastline, and it’s surrounded by a national lake area. The rare and sensitive ecosystem is home to a wealth of water birds, and the elusive Knysna Loerie may be heard, and sometimes seen, in the forest.
